Photo alarm for Fajr: 8 ways to stop an alarm, ranked by how well they get you up

By , independent developer of Bedless Fajr (our app) · Last checked

Most missed Fajrs start the same way: the alarm rings, you turn it off from bed, and you wake up after sunrise. At 5 AM, any alarm you can stop from under the duvet will be stopped from under the duvet.

What matters is what the alarm makes you do before it stops. We ranked the 8 common ways to stop an alarm on two questions: can you do it from bed, and can you beat it half-asleep?

Our pick

Bedless Fajrour app

It rings at your Fajr time, through silent mode, and stops when a photo of today's target, picked for you, is accepted by an AI check. A photo, not a tap.

This ranking is our opinion, and Bedless Fajr is our app. Every fact about it on this page can be checked in the app.

Why a photo works better than the rest

  • You have to be up, with the light on, somewhere else. A photo of your sink can't be taken from under the duvet.
  • A target you can't re-roll. If the target is always the same, you learn the shortest route to it. If it's picked for you each morning (your sink, your prayer mat unrolled, a glass of water, your toothbrush or siwak), you have to walk to it.
  • The check looks at what's in the photo. In Bedless Fajr, an AI vision model is lenient on quality (blurry, dark or tilted is fine) and strict on the target.

What to look for in a photo alarm for Fajr

  1. It rings at Fajr, computed for where you are, every day. Fajr moves by minutes every week and jumps by an hour when the clocks change. A fixed alarm drifts.
  2. It rings through silent mode. On iPhone, that takes a real system alarm, not a notification.
  3. You can't re-roll the target.
  4. It checks the photo, and tells you why when it refuses one.
  5. It rings again if you go back to sleep.
  6. It never traps you. Illness, travel, a period: a good Fajr alarm has honest ways out.

How Bedless Fajr does it

  1. At Fajr, it rings. Bedless Fajr sets a system alarm with Apple's AlarmKit. Once you allow Alarms, it rings through the silent switch and Focus modes, even if the app is closed.
  2. You tap “I'M UP”. A quick draw picks today's target, the same all morning, and “BISMILLAH” opens the camera, flashlight on.
  3. You take the photo. When the check accepts it, the alarm and today's follow-ups stop, and “WHAT I SAW” shows what the AI recognised.
  4. Until then, it comes back. It rings again within two minutes, for up to an hour, never after sunrise.

Honest limits. An AI can get a photo wrong: after two refusals in a row, you can continue anyway, and the morning is marked unverified. “I can't get up” stops today's alarm without a photo, and Excused keeps the alarm off for the days you set during your period. Bedless Fajr checks that you're up; it doesn't track your prayer. For iPhone, iOS 26 or later.
